Quit smoking and avoid second-hand smoke

About one in five deaths from cancer are due to smoking. More than 10,000 Australians are diagnosed with a smoking-related cancer each year. Second-hand smoking presents a danger to others.

Quit smoking

There is convincing evidence of an association between smoking and cancers of the lung, larynx, mouth, kidney, oesophagus, anus, bladder, vulva, cervix, penis, pancreas, stomach and bowel.

Avoid second-hand smoke

Even if you don’t smoke, breathing in other people’s cigarette smoke can increase your risk of cancer. Make sure that you and your family are smokefree.
